"George Edgar Clayton, son of Linn Boyd Clayton was born Jan. 3 1875
at Covello, Washington. His father & mother were born in Kentucky,
crossed the plains in 1865 and were married 4 years later at Walla
Walla, Washington making their home at Covello where George was born.
At the age of seven his father died and he made his home with his
mother until he was about sixteen yrs old. When his mother remarried (to Henry Calvin Abel) he left home and went to live with his Aunt Lori Howard, also with his
Aunt & Uncle Mr and Mrs Jim Fuller until his marriage to Zilpha May
Foster July 20, 1898. After his marriage he made his home in the
Tucanon Region where he was a well known farmer moving to Clarkston in
1935 where he resided until his death at the age of 70 following a
short illness of about 2 1/2 months. He is survived by his wife Zilpha
May Clayton two daughters Velma Cherry, Walla Walla; Loree M.
McCleary, Vancouver; and three sons Virgil, Versel & Lloyd Clayton all
of Clarkston, five grand children, 3 great grand children & two
sisters Mrs Clara Sumpter, Lewiston & Mrs May Craiul, Yakima."

"----Died, at Marengo, March 15, 1882, of consumption, L. B. Clayton, age about 45 years" Info supplied by Barbara Bartels on the Internet.
Marengo is a crossroads, which used to have a school, church, and
several houses, now just two houses. It is just across the line in
Columbia County, WA. There is a tiny cemetery there, but no one has read the headstones. Parents: Francis Huell CLAYTON and Elizabeth BOURLAND.
