In 1651 Jacob Gibbs was fined 40 shillings for a misdemeanor and
warned to expect a more seve re penalty in the future. He and his
wife joined the Windsor Church in 1693, but later move d to Westfield,
Mass. In 1670 he was deeded an island in the Windsor River by its
Indian owne r.
Father is said to have landed at Dorchester 30 May 1930 (Dorchester
town records reputedly li st him there in 1630), which would mean that
Jacob was probably born there -- the would not l ikely have traveled
as a baby. Another source says that the arrival date for Gyles was 2
No v 1631 at Nantasket, MA. He was made a Freeman on 4 Mar 1632 in
Dorchester. Jacob could thu s have been born in England, on board
crossing the Atlantic, or in Dorchester, MA.

Trueman Gibbs was born in Litchfield Co., Conn. in 1750.
He served in the Revolutionary War as a private in the 1st Regiment, 4th Company under Capt. David Welch, Gen. David Wooster Commanding. Discharged from Northern Dept., Sept, 2, 1775.
He later served as Trumpeter in Capt. Moses Seymour's Company, Major Sheldon's regiment of Light Horse. They marched Oct. 25 1776. This command accompanied Gen. Washington on his retreat through New Jersey in Dec. of 1776, and was discharged Dec. 24, 1776.
He also served in Capt. James Stoddard's company. Gen. Waterbury's Sate Brigade. He joined this company May 4, 1781. This Brigade was raised for the defense of the sea coast from Horsneck to New Haven.
The record of Trueman Gibbs' service is in the Adjutant General's office at Hartford, Conn.
In 1776 he was married to Anna Barnes and they had seven children: Benjamin, Anar (born May 8th, 1780, died Feb. 4th, 1860), Elijah, Elisha, Elias, Mallinda and Marvina. Trueman Gibbs passed away in 1830.
