The linked material is arranged into the above three groupings with the addition of a fourth group for any Storm whose lineage is not obviously part of the above and an initial group for miscellaneous Storm information. Please note that the material below is a compilation of individuals' postings going back as far as mid-1995. Therefore, the information may not be current and the links and addresses may no longer be valid. I will remove addresses as I discover them to no longer be functional.
Pennsylvania German Pioneers identifies a number of other Sturm arrivals in the 1700's in Philadelphia:
*Jacob Storm (Sturm) who was born 23 May 1763 married Juliana Herrmann on 13 Apr 1784. Source: Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church Parish Record Book I 1743-1811 translation. Family Bible
Leonhardt Sturm who apparently was son of Johan Wendel Sturm had a daughter Christiana{new} who served as a witness to the above wedding. Op.cit.
Johan Jacob Sturm may have had a daughter Christina Storm (Stormin) of Frederick Valley MD, who married Jacob Graff or Grove on 19 Oct 1784. Jacob and Maria Storm were witnesses. Op. cit.
Johan Jacob Sturm's marriage to Margaretha Dellinger(in) is listed as 8 Oct 1750. Op.cit.
- Jacob Sturm (which one is not at all clear) had an illegitimate son Jacob with Catharina Merckel. The boy died 31 Mar 1785 at age 4 mo, 6 d. Op. cit. A note in Monocacy and Catoctin Vol I by C.E.Schildknect, Editor from Beidel Printing House that the Jacob Storm married to Maria Benedicta who had daughter Maria Catharina was different from the "JJS who came in 1728 with Brunner." This refers to Joseph Brunner from Klein Schifferstadt via Philadelphia.
John Storrim/Stuurm 1723-1805 was the son-in-law of Michael (d. 1777) and Eve Tanner of Frederick, MD. His wife was Elizabeth. Ibid

Both were married in Germany, he about 1726 to Anna Benedictina Saur, she on Nov 25, 1725 to Johann Jacob Brunner. The two couples along with two children each, born in K. Schifferstadt emigrated together in 1728, arriving in Philadelphia aboard the Mortonhouse on Aug 23 {"Pennsylvania German Pioneers by Ralph B. Strassburger lists the ship arrival twice; once also on 15 Jun 1728}. The following year, the balance of the Brunner family and others from K. Schifferstadt arrived.
Jacob Storm (as his name changed), spent over 10 yrs in PA. The Lancaster Reformed Churck book records the baptisms in 1739 and 1740 of his 8th (Christina) and 9th (Johann Peter) children. On 9 Jan 1742, the marriage of Jacob Storm and Maria Saurin were recorded, probably at Earl Town. Jacob Storm was naturalized (recorded as Jacob Stern) on 19 Oct 1743. He bought land called "Indian Field" on "Tasker's Chance" on July 28, 1746. The deed mentions a road passing thru, which was apparently on the west side of the Monocacy River, between it and the extension of Market St.
Jacob Storm was one of the initial elders of the Frederick Reformed Church. His name appears as a signatory on the 1748 appeal to Paster Michael Schlatter for help to strengthen the congregation against the Dunkers. He died at 57, leaving his sons Vandel (Wendel), Jacob the Younger, John, Peter, and his daughters Susanna (wife of Martin Cuntz), Anna Maria (wife of Peter Brunner), Anna Elizabeth (wife of Adam Kyle), Maria Barbara (wife of Jacob Turner), Christina, Mary, Catherina, Charlotta, and a second Anna Maria. In accordance with his will, "Indian Fields" was sold to Peter Tofeler, who had married Anna Maria Sturm on 17 Apr 1757.

Rec. 15 Oct 1784Peter Tofler mar. Anna Maria Sturm, widow of Jacob the elder 17 Apr 1757. There were several accounting for Jacob's estate. The final accounting was made by Stephen Ramsburg 15 Oct 1784. It appears that Jacob , the younger received his share from his step father in 1781. The above would seem to negate information in some known Storm family histories. I have never read where this Jacob may have gone to New York.
My line is through Leonard Storm (1736-1819) in Frederick Co. Md. and am happy to share infomation.

I am a decendant of Sebastian and the group that came to Philadelphia on the "Mortonhouse". Actually, I am a decendant of the BRUNER family that first came on that same ship as well as the STURM/STORM line. They came from Schifferstadt as well and decendants of those lines still are found in the same areas around the country, especially in Kentucky it seems. I have a situation of trying to fill in gaps. I don't know if I can explain it well here in a few lines or not. The STURM/STORM and BRUNER families joined by marriage a few times. I can actually trace the ones that are farther back in time easier because there has been so much done and reported on them already. However, I am a direct decendant of another BRUNER/STORM connection that I can't seem to trace back as far. I can't be sure that the STORM I come from is a decendant of the Schifferstadt STROMs or not. As I said, I am a decendant of them for sure through the BRUNNER/STURM marriages, but my surname history is still not traced back to a connection.
John James Storm was born in Indiana 29 June 1829 to George Storm who d. 1836 in a sawmill accident and is buried in an unmarked grave in a cemetery just across the road from Indian Lake near Hawesville, KY, and Winney Ann Rusher (b.abt 1810 ; d. 1849), daughter of James Rusher (b. abt 4 July 1780 ; d. 11 June 1847 and is buried in Blackford Church Cemetery in Hancock Co., KY). George and Winney lived in Indiana when John James was born, but about 1830 moved to Kentucky where they had 3 more children: Joseph, Rhoda Angelina, and Sara Jane. Nothing about George's parents are known for sure. One source suggests that he may have been a son of a Peter Storm who lived in Ohio County and later Spencer Co., IN. Many records at Hartford and a "will" was probated at Rockport, IN. I would love to know this lineage. It was also noted that when Winney died, John James and two surviving sisters may have become wards of one Peter Brewer according to Hawesville Courthouse records. John James became a methodist minister and also Hancock County (KY) Judge in the 1880's. He married Mary Ellen Cox on 29 Dec 1853. She was the daughter of a Robert Cox who helped build the Hancock Co. Courthouse. John James and Mary Ellen had 8 children. Robert Cox, James Beauregard, Benjamin Rusher, Ida Belle, George Nester (my ggrandfather), Laura J., Minnie G., and Margaret E. John James and Mary Ellen are both buried in Hawesville Cemetery. George Nester married Cora Florence Chambers, daughter of Samuel P. Chambers and Caroline E. Bruner. One of their children was Earl Chambers Storm, my grandfather. If anyone can help me trace my STORM name back past John James and his father George, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. Brad Storm Geneseo, IL

I am seeking information on a first wife of John Sturm/Storm b. 1755 Sharpsburg, MD near the WV(then VA)/MD border. John served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting from VA, but two of his brothers enlisted from MD. There is a time gap between the end of the war and John's appearance in KY with wife Hannah Collard. Some sources show Hannah Collard as mother of all of John's children, however other information suggests that Peter, Mary, and Sarah were almost certainly born before John's marriage to Hannah. If anyone can shed any light on this question, or verify any corrections or additions to the following data, the help will be greatly appreciated!!
John STURM was married to UNKNOWN about 1780 and had the following children: Peter STORM was born about 1784 in WV. He died after 1842. Sarah STORM was born about 1785 in WV. She died before 1840 in Grayson Co., KY. Mary STORM was born about 1785 in WV. She died in 1875.
John STURM was married to Hannah COLLARD on 5 Dec 1789 in Nelson Co., KY. They had the following children: Elizabeth Ann STORM was born on 18 Aug 1790 in Nelson Co., KY. She died after 1852 in Freelandville, Knox Co., IN. William STORM was born about 1792 in Nelson Co., KY.
[email protected]I am a descendant of John Jacob Sturm/Jacob/Isaac/Henderson/Volney. John Jacob Sturm/Storm (Johann Jacob Sturm) was baptized in Kleinschifferstadt in the Palatinate of Germany on Feb. 13, 1701. He emigrated to America on the ship Mortonhouse with his sister,Maria Barbara, and brother-in-law, Jacob Brunner, arriving in Philadelphia on August 23, 1725. They settled in PA for a couple of years in Lancaster Co. and by 1743 they lived in part of Prince Georges Co., MD, which is now Frederick Co. John Jacob purchased property from Daniel Dulany, founder of Frederick, known as Indian Fields. After his death, this land was sold to Gov Thomas Johnson, first Gov. of Maryland. This property became part of his home known as Rose Hill Nanor which is a historical site and open for visitors. Jacob Brunner built a stone home named Schifferstadt after their home town in Germany and it also is an hisotrical landmark. The following is the the family tree down to John Jacob: Sebastian Sturm wife Gloss son Christian b1662 d 1734 wife Magdalena wife Anna Barbara Gah b1675 m 5/10/1695 son Johann Jacob Sturm b 1701 d wife Anna Benedictine Sauer dau Maria Barbara wife of Jacob Brunner b 12/13/1702 son Johann Wendall b 3/28/1709 (Vandel John Jacob had thirteen children that are known and maybe two more that died at an early age. They are Susanna, Johann Wendel, Anna Maria, Jacob the younger, Jacob, Johan (John) Peter, Nickolas, Johannes(John), Elizabeth, .Barbara, Christina, Peter, Mary, Catherina Storm, Charlotta, and Anna Maria. I also have a list of each of their children. Most of the material I have (60 pages) comes from a book called "Jacob Brunner of Schifferstadt".
Johann Jacob Dorner (also Darner, Durner, Turner, Tanner) of Ilbesheim, Landau, Germany, shoemaker, probably arrived in Philadelphia in 1746, paying his own passage. In Frederick Co. by 1748, he applied for a warrant to 100 acres of land in Middletown Valley on Catoctin Creek. He married Anna Maria Barbara Sturm, and was naturalized in 1760. The same day he received a patent for his land, "Landau." Jacob and Barbara had six children, all of whom are followed through three generations in MD, WV, OH, and IN.
The book written by Judge Littell (on page 1) states: "A John Storm was reportedly born in Germany 12 January 1725, married Elizabeth Tanner and followed the same migration pattern as some of our identified Storms to Frederick County, Maryland and Adams or York County, Pa. but no relationship has been established." Further in the book (page 151) there is a 4th generation mention of a Storm descendant in this line (a Lela May Anderson) who married a McConnell. The parents of Lela May were born circa 1857.
