All the old timers who went to the US, Canada and Australia with surname Chin/Chinn were Chen/Chan/Tan. In the Siyi pronunciation it is something close to the Mandarin Chen but not quite and Westerners who registered the arrivals could only transliterate it to Chin in English. Even Chan is not quite the true Cantonese pronunciation, that is the problem with trying to transliterate Chinese to English.
