Your gggf came from the southern part of Fujian Province and left from the port of Xiamen (called Amoy in the local Hokkien/Minnan dialect). I believe the name Yoo Tick was written in the proper Chinese form where the surname was Yoo and his given name was Tick. My guess is as follows: Yoo surname is pronounced like "You" in English (Yu in Mandarin) which means "to swim or to float"; as for Tick it is probably a popular male name called De in Mandarin or Teck in Hokkien to mean "virtue".
