Thelma,
I did some snooping around on the name Achiu in Oahu, Hawaii. First, the latest phone book for Oahu does not contain any listings for the surname Achiu. Secondly, there is a street in the town of Haleiwa named Achiu Lane.....Haleiwa is located smack adjacent to the town of Waialua (you said your great grandfather once had a store and a blacksmith shop in Waialua). Haleiwa might have been a part of old Waialua back then. Finally, there is a Walter Achiu reported to have been born in Waialua to a Chinese father and a Hawaiian mother in 1902. He became a football athlete.....the following information is gleaned from the weblink: http://www.asianathlete.com/AthleteDisplayForm.aspx?ID=262

Sport(s): | Football |
Current Team: 1920s Dayton Triangles
Position: Halfback
Notes:
One of the early professional pioneers was a halfback named Walter Achiu who played for the Dayton Triangles during the 1920's.
Walter Sneeze Achiu was the first Asian to play Professional Football.
Full name: Walter Tin Kit Achiu
Born: Waialua, HI (Oahu), August 03,1902
Died: Eugene, OR, March 21, 1989
Ethnicity: Chinese father, Hawaiian mother

Obviously the Achiu name made its mark on Waialua......with a street named Achiu Lane in Waialua and a native son from Waialua named Walter Achiu, this has got to be more than just a coincident especially when you had mentioned that your great grandfather Leong Achiu used to have a store and a blacksmith shop in Waialua. Hope these revelations help you to getting closer to your genealogical endpoint search. Again, good luck!
