Perhaps you should investigate whether a death record for Ekim's mother was registered at the British consulate in Swatow (Shantou). Records presumably at the Public Record Office, London.

: Our gg-grandfather John Bellamy, a sea captain of London UK, made his home in Amoy in the early 1840's and carried on the trade of chandler and owned a dock there. He married Ekim daughter of Ah Quan in Amoy, and they had 3 children - Mary b.1849 in Canton, John b. 1851 in Hong Kong and Charles (our g-grandfather) b. 1855 in Amoy. We have copies of the marriage and birth certificates registered with the British consulate in Amoy. John died in 1862 in Amoy, and we have no further knowledge of Ekim but think she may have already been dead as the children were then sent to London to live. In his will he left a pension to - 'the grandmother living in Swatow'. (Ekim's mother ?)
: Any advice where we start, or knowledge of these names.
