My guess is that the names in question are the transliterations in Teochiu dialect. You can get a sense of this by reviewing the surnames under the Min Nan (Hokkien/Taiwanese/Teochew) header on the website:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_Chinese_surnames
