Hi Judy My great grandmother was called Amy Yapyeck, she married Thomas Boyle . In 1900 all documents started to refer to her single name as Amy Richardson . Her parents were James Yab Yeck and Margaret Richards.
My Grandmother Mary Galdys Boyle married Francis Mooney and my father was Kenneth Mooney . He never mentioned any chinese heritage, and always referred to his mother's family as Richards
I think there was a lot of anti- chinese feeling and it wasn't made public
