: Try Lucy M. Cohen's book "Chinese in the Post Civil War South:A People Without History. Baton Rouge:Louisiana State University Press, 1984.
: Also try US census for your gggfather's county;U.S. Immigration and naturalization records (English) by calling for Form G639. Good luck.

I have been doing research on New Orleans Chinese for my documentary. I learned there were many Feng, or Fong, Fungs in the early 1900s. I have many of their Chinese names in my research material. If you have his Chinese name I can help you more. Fax the infor to 540 367-0390. You can link to AsianBayou.com to get a sense of the Chinese Heritage in Louisiana. The site is being revamped.
