Preliminary information on the site is the Concourse on Brannan and 8th St. Admission fee unknown at this date. There will be genealogists and other researchers doing other sessions on the various techniques of gathering family history information. The expected audience is about 1200 for the two day conference with approximately fifteen+/- sessions on different aspects of family history research. My specialty area is from the 1840's - 1970's for Chinese from Guangdong province, China. Some topics which I may be covering include:how to translate traditional Chinese gravestones (names, dates, homebase); immigration documents; how the Chinese Exclusion Acts in the U.S. created "paper names" for some families; guidelines on how to conduct a family interview/questionnaire, etc., census, identifying photos; contact relatives in China; visiting your ancestral village; using your research skills, etc. My book, China Connection:Finding Ancestral Roots for Chinese in America, 1994/rev.1996, (ISBN 0-9638835-1-8), JWC Low Co. includes composite gravestones and rudimentary translation of dates and standard gravestone information and resources.
