Yon could well be a Chinese surname, although it appears to be a rare spelling. Chinese has many dialects and the pronounciation of the same name could be very different. "Yon" does not sound Mandarin or Cantonese, two of the main dialects. If you know the part of China that the name came from, you might be able to better identify the Chinese character that it is based on.
