: The name "Fong" from Toisan (Taishan) could have two different origin. The more popular one is Kwong in Cantonese or Kuang in mandarin. The other one is Fong in Cantonese or Fang in mandarin and has the meaning of "square". Both are related and in fact shares the same family association with "Lui, Fong & Kwong." A branch of this association can be found in most major Chinatown. I have more information on the Kwong family history.

The family association name in California had been changed from "Louie, Fong, & Kwong" to "Soo Yuen Benenvolent Association". There are affliates throughout the U.S.
