I am thinking this is why my mother (an only child) never mentioned her Chinese ancestry. I appreciate any help/opinions/etc.
Judging by the immigration pattern he is likely to
be a surname No.4 Lee originating from one of the
4 districts around Taishan in Guangdong province.
There is a Lee Family Association in Chicago.
You might try to see if they could put you into
contact with an oldtimer who might remember
something.
Also try to locate the family unit in context in
the 1920 Census.
