my last name is heung (tone 1: high level/high falling), adj. fragrant.
i've heard that it's a rare surname.
i know very little about my paternal (or maternal) family history.
i would like to hear from other heung's who know something about our family roots.
also, when i was a kid, i was told that the name heung came from the name cha (tone 4: low falling), verb: to check; to investigate.
i was told that by taking the bottom stroke from cha and placing it on top, someone down my paternal lineage changed the name to heung.
does anyone know more about this?
i'm not sure how well my memory serves me (was it just a dream?).
i've been wondering for a long time--especially when someone exclaims "whaa... your name is so rare!"
please contact me by e-mail at the above addresses.
thanks.
