: I'm conducting research to understand the history of my family, and would appreciate any information on Ben Lai Yee who was born in the late 1800's and moved to America and resided in Pennsylvannia briefly and finally in Chicago. He had a relative (Aunt?) in San Francisco and some brothers in Philadelphia (Lee Fon Bo, Lee Fon Tong, Lee Fon Yee?). Ben Lai Yee later married Sung Lee and brought her in from Hong Kong to Chicago. Any history or data that you could share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Thomas,

How is Ben Lai Yee related to you? If Yee is his
surname why is his brothers name are Lee Fon *?
Logically, his name should be Lee Fon (Ben or Lai
or Yee). The most important thing to do in your
research is to pin down the surname in Chinese as
the English tranliteration has many
interpretations in Chinese depending on what part
of China they are from and what dialect that is use
in the translation.

Is he buried in the Chinese cemetary
in Stickney, Illinois? If so, look at the
headstone for the Chinese marking to get his name
and likely his village is and other info is on it.

The limited info given here indicate that your
family is from Taishan, Guangdong (Pearl River
Delta),as Moy is a common surname of the Chinese
from Chicago and are from this area in China .

LOL,

Chune Lee
