: Swatow (your Swatau) is not in Fujian Province but in northeastern Guangdong Province in Chaozhou region. Swatow is the Chaozhou (Teochew) dialect pronunciation, in Putonghua it is Shantou. Your surname Tjoa (Dutch spelling) is I believe Chua in Teochew dialect or Cai in Putonghua.

: : does anyone have more information on this? my family is chinese indonesian (orig. name tjoa) and is supposedly from the village ching a bwe in the swa-tau district in fujian.. does anyone know where this is or what the name of the village is now?

: : thanks, cyril (e-mail: [email protected])
