Hung Khui-syu, the son of Hung Jen-kan, the Shield King (Kan Wang), continued to preach Christianity in Guangdong but then had to seek refuge in Hong Kong when the Qing imperial forces were getting dangerously close. He married in Hong Kong and the family left for British Guiana on the "Dartmouth" which arrived in Georgetown on 17th March 1879. He was a catechist at the Chinese church in Georgetown and later emigrated to Trinidad. Because the Hakka pronunciation of the surname is Fung the descendants of the Hung clan now have Fung as their surname.
Other persons of the Hung clan emigrated to British Guiana after the fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom but their exact connection with Hong Xiuquan is not know at this time.
