My father, Arthur Crank,was in the SMP from 1937-1942.
He was born in Shanghai and lived in Bubbling Well Road. He didn't speak much about his life in China although I know his mother (along with 10 children) ran a guest house after my Grandfather returned to England suffering ill health.
My father was in the Yu Yuen Road POW camp until the end of the war. I have heard a few stories from his sister of how he suffered trying to stand up for the other internees in the camp.
Like I said my father never spoke much of his life in Shanghai and I too would like to find out more about those years.
Unfortunately my father passed away 6 months ago. He was suffering from alzheimers so by the time I became inquisitive about his life in Shanghai it was too late to ask him questions.
Any info gratefully appreciated.
