That's right, Shunde is Mandarin for Soon Tuck,
or Shun Tak, depending on the dialect.
If you want to research genealogies in China, it
would help greatly if you have the earliest name
available of the emigrants. Although there are
books about particular surnames available in Hong
Kong, they are almost always very general, with
information only on the original establishment of
the surname.
In the Pearl River Delta which is where Shunde is,
a great number of villages were single-surnamed,
in which there was almost always a tsi-tong, an
ancestral hall, shared by the entire clan, ie the
whole village.
A good way to start would be finding where the
ancestral village is exactly, and finding (somehow)
others who have the same ancestral village. Any
further work would almost certainly mean going
there.
