Is the surname Gan or Keik. The anglocized version is also misleading. Must find out the dialect spoken, and the exact Chinese character. My father used Kang but it could easily be Gan, Kung, Kan, etc. He was born 1919 and there was a major migration from Foochow (Fuzhou)in Fukien Province around that period. He was Fuzhou dialect and came from the village of Pinang. Write me direct if you want.

: Have found out that my Great GF was from Canton and went to the USA as a ships steward. I have no clue as to what teh boat was named or when it sailed. The Keik name is on the war memorial at Birkinhead in England. There are just so many gaps but i am just so fasinated by my cultural background. >>
