Is your great grandfather buried in Australia? If so, then a picture of his tombstone may shed some light as it may contain Chinese script on it. Where did he do his gold mining?

: I am trying to trace the correct name and birth place of my great grandfather who emigrated to Australia in the late 19th century as a gold miner.

: His daughter's birth certificate lists his birth place as "shais si", while her marriage certificate lists his birth place as "lang sing". It is probable he came from somewhere in Guangdong, or possibly Fujian.

: His name was anglicised as IM FUN CHUNG, but I am fairly certain this is a mistake now. It is possible he came from Toi Shan province in Guangdong, but not certain. His friends had names like A'hoy and Su Yi Chong. We have no Chinese characters for his name or birth place.

: Any help would be appreciated.
