Al, there are variations within the Siyi dialect. For example a Xinhui person will say "yiak" when referring to action of eating whereas a Kaiping and , I think, a Enping will say "hiak". I am not sure how a Taishan or Heshan will say "eat" in their respective dialect. I am also not sure among the five districts which pairs are the closer to one another from the dialectical perspective.
