This is about a first name rather than a last name.
I am not chinese, but my husband is. We named our first child, a son, Kai Wei. My husbands' father helped us pick this name, he is highly educated and took much pride in choosing this name. Now I am days away from giving birth to our second child, a daughter. When I first found out I was expecting I told my in laws if it was a girl I really loved the name Mei Lin. they seemed to have no problem with this, until now. Now my father in law is telling me there is no such name or it is not a good name. I have read on a different message board that Mei Lin is quite common and could mean Beautiful Jade or Beautiful Forest. I am partial to Beautiful Forest. Can anyone please advise and let me know if Mei Lin is indeed a good chinese girls name or not. Thank you.
