I research my Leong family who immigrated from Hong Kong to California (USA) through Angel Island at the Port of San Francisco. I recently visited Angel Island and it was a very moving experience for me.
If you have family who arrived in San Francisco, Hawaii or Seattle, the Chinese records are stored in San Bruno's National Archives. I have several hundred pages of testimony including pictures and family history just for my grandfather, Leong Joy Sing (Leong Joe Sing). There are also files for his children, wife, brothers and their children. In one file there was a 3-generation scroll.
I am fortunate to live within driving distance of this research facility which is unique in the abundance of Chinese records available for researchers to view. You can also request copies of files for a copying fee. So don't neglect this wonderful source in your family research. www.nara.gov is the home page.
