Again, Al is 99% correct. What he did not mention is that Ang in Hokkien also means "Red". There was a boatload (approximately 30 men and a handful of women) of Chinese, fleeing a famine in Fujian, that landed in the southern island of the Philippines during the latter part of the 16th century and all members onboard abandoned their surnames and took up the name Ang. This act was to signify new blood starting afresh in a new country. If you know of any Ang ancestors ever living in Mindanao, then this might be part of your history. Hope this helps!
