Out here in Australia, as far as we know (we've got the whole family tree dating back to BC times) the original Yip dude, was an official in the Imperial Court. Don't know which dynasty off the top of my head. He was awarded governance of a southern area in Canton (Guangdong) and this is when he took the name 'Yip'. Will post some more details later...
