My brother-in-law has this surname (means dawn). We pronounce it in English as Lie which is a close approximation of its Cantonese pronunciation.
: I would like to know the corect pronunciation of my last name Lai. I know it can be pronounced Lie or Lay. I knew of a chinese family growing up who pronounced it Low (as in cow). P.S I am half chinese and quite ignorant about the language
