Karina,

I haven't much clue where "Taitan" is, but my best guess is that it is the name of your grandfather's ancestral village. However, I'm quite certain that the "Shung Tack" you referred to is now called "Shunde District", one of the 3 Sam Yup districts near Canton (now called Guangzhou). The other 2 districts are Namhoi and Panyu. Shunde used to be anglicized and spelled as "Sun Tak" or "Sun Dak" in the Cantonese dialect. Many Overseas Chinese migrated from this area in the latter 1800's and early 1900's. A short introduction to Shunde can be found at: http://www.shunde.gov.cn/english/ Here it is noted that Shunde District has 107 villages. Perhaps one of them is "Taitan".

Good luck on your genealogical search.

Raymond
