My Joson line comes from the Visayas, and they were of Spanish descent. It could be that those Josons in Luzon were indeed Chinese. The Visayan Josons originated from Jaro, Iloilo. The story goes that as the brothers traveled to settle in different islands, each one varied his name a little bit to identify his line (Jozon, Jocson, Jhocson, Juzon, etc.). My great-grandfather's name was Don Vicente Joson of Carigara, Leyte, and his son, my maternal grandfather, was Judge Tirso C. Joson, born in Carigara, but served as a teacher & high school principal in Tacloban, and then eventually moved his family to Manila where he studied law, became a judge, and then served on 2 presidential cabinets - for Magsaysay and Garcia. If you search the photo archives of Far East Broadcasting Company International (FEBI) you will find Judge Joson in a photo of the original board members of FEBC Philippines dated 1947. We are not related to the Nueva Ecija Josons (a derived name), but descend from the Josons of Castille, Northern Spain. From time to time in history that area was owned by France. I would love to hear from Josons of this line!
