For Our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
June 11, 1999
Browsing back through the pages of time I behold
heart warming images of the passing years.
The image of the lovely girl, the marvelous
person who captured my heart so long ago.
The image of a companion who merged her fate with mine
when my only possessions were the faith and optimism of youth.
The image of a loving spouse who followed without
question into the unknown, far from family and friends.
The image of a loving young mother giving selflessly
of herself to mold and shape three young lives. The image of an understanding spouse never complaining
about the time demands of my job and career.
The image of a caring, compassionate servant
in community service to those in need.
The image of a talented, creative person
developing marvelous, undiscovered talents.
The image of a patient, trusting spouse who
accepted me, with all my faults, for what I was.
And now, on the page of the present, the gracious, gentle mantle
of the passing years has replaced the vitality and sparkle of youth.
But looking at her today I behold the image of the lovely girl,
the marvelous person who captured my heart so long ago.
