Absalom Lowe 1874 - later than 1920
It appears that the spelling of his first name changes from document to document.
In 1881 Absalom Lowe was a 9 year old child living with his widowed mother Hannah (37) (b. 1844) born in Abram, together with Jane (15) (b. 1866), Henry (13) (b. 1868), Rachael (10) (b. 1871), Mary (5) (b. 1876) and William (3) (b. 1878). At this time they were living in Wellington Street, Ashton-U-Lyne.
His mother Hannah remarried in 1889 to Thomas Yates and the family are shown together in the 1891 census.

In 1900 both Absalom and his brother Henry were in Failsworth for the births of their children, and had moved to Ince by the 1901 census.
In 1901 Absalom Lowe was with his family living in Brook Street, Ince. Living close to his brother Henry, it is likely that they worked at the same colliery.
The 8 October 1904 must have provided a great spectacle when Buffalo Bill and his wild west show arrive in Wigan to perform near Leigh...700 performers some of which actually fought at Custers Last Stand in 1876. 10,000 spectators were present. |
