Matthew Whitmore 1892 -

The older brother of my grandfather, Matthew was born in Frizington, Cumberland in 1892, he married Elizabeth (Lily) Kennedy in 1917 in Frizington. By 1923 he was in Stainforth for the birth of Annie (1923), William (1927) and Kathleen (1935). His wife, Lily Kennedy, died in 1939, aged 42.

It was this letter published in the Whitehaven News that prompted me to research Matthew Whitmore.

Marriage to Elizabeth Kennedy

Matthew Whitmore married Elizabeth Kennedy (known as Lily) in 1917 (Registered in the district of Whitehaven.)

From informaton provided by June Fletcher I am informed that they married 7th May 1917 at The Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.

(1) Leo Whitmore was born in 1929, the birth registered 1930. Certificate in possession of June Fletcher. Married 24 March 1951, living at 61 Park Rd. Preston. Leo married May Parkinson in 1951 in Preston, Lancashire. Their children live in Scotland, Lancashire and Merseyside.

(2) Annie married Arthur Mulligan. She died 2004, the death registered in Blackpool, Lancashire.

(3) Eleanor Whitmore married Henry Morris registered in Preston in 1939

(4) Elizabeth (Bet, Betty ) Whitmore married Edward (Ted) Cartwright registered in Preston in 1948.
