In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, it states that Laura has had 5 kids total with 3 still living. So that means some time between their marriage in 1884 and the 1900 census are 2 kids that I do not have names for. I don't remember if it was Ancestry or FamilySearch who first released the Kansas state census records, and what year they were released, but I am so glad they did as that finally gave me Elmer's parents! Siblings too of course. But all I had for the longest time was Elmer's death certificate that said parents were unknown. Which is funny because in the 1885 census, when Elmer and Laura were married about 1 year, they were living with Elmer's parents! So why they were listed as 'unknown' is beyond me. Elmer's death certificate said they were living in Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas in 1922, so I went looking in the 1920 census hoping to find them there and 'Yay' I did find them right where I was hoping. I also knew that their son James was born in Oklahoma in 1897 and from that information I had found them in 1900 census in Creek Nation, Indian Territory in Oklahoma. But I had not been able to find a 'for sure' Elmer Green prior to the 1900 census, until that 1885 Kansas state census was released. Thank goodness he was with Laura too, or I might not have been able to pinpoint that as him and his family. I have a copy of his marriage, death certificates (son is informant on death cert) and his obituary. Other profile pages for him are on Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, Find-A-Grave and Kansas Gravestones websites. |
