    Lieutenant Challoner Francis Trevor Chute, 2nd Battalion RMF, was the son of Francis Blennerhassett Chute, J.P., of Chute Hall, Tralee, Co. Kerry; Ireland, and husband of Maud Emily Hobson of Corbally. Lieutenant C.F.T. Chute was killed in action on Thursday 27 August 1914. He was aged 29 years. He is buried in the ETREUX BRITISH CEMETERY Aisne, France, grave reference II. 6.


    Second Lieutenant Cyril Henry Dudgeon, was the son of Henry Dudgeon and Rosa/Rose Chute Dudgeon, Dublin. In the 1911 Census of Ireland he was employed as an assistant stockbroker. According to the London Gazette he was temporarily named Second Lieutenant on 28 NOV 1914.

    Lieutenant Claude Henry Chute, 31st Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. [Australian Imperial Force], son of Henry George Chute and Fanny Clara Lockyer Chute. Killed in action Wednesday 26 September 1917. Aged 33. His name is commemorated on the YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.     Lance Sargeant Eric Cecil Chute, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. [Australian Imperial Force], also the son of Henry George Chute and Fanny Clara Lockyer Chute. Killed in action on Saturday 7 August 1915, aged 26. His name is commemorated on Special Memorial C. 95. LONE PINE CEMETERY, ANZAC Turkey. For more details on his service record, see his Notes.
    2nd Lieutenant John Chute Ellis, son of Thomas Chute Ellis, Sr. and Agnes Williams Ellis, was an Australian descendant of Reverend John Ellis and Elizabeth Lobb of the Vyne Chutes. He was born in Mount Gambier, South Australia and was active in both the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. He died on 6 JUN 1917 of his wounds in West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium and was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, West Flanders, Belgium.

    Lieutenant Frederick Russell Chute, son of Edward Russell Chute and Mary Nina Chute died on August 14, 1917, at the age of 47. Although British, he was a member of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, the 17th Motor Machine Gun Coy (Army). He is buried in the Witley (Milford) Cemetery in Surrey (United Kingdom).     George Edward Barlow of Wolverhampton, County Staffordshire, Great Britain, the son of Thomas Cornish Barlow, Sr. and Catherine ("Kate") Chute Barlow was killed in action during World War I on 4 NOV 1915 in Loos, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. He was buried in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

    Lieutenant Colonel Mervyn Lyde Chute born in Great Moulton, County Norfolk, Great Britain, the son of Edward Russell Chute and Nina Mary Firth Chute served in the Army Service Corps, Royal Engineers from 1914-1919.

    Emdon Burtal Cornwell, the son of James W. Cornwell and Jessie Elizabeth Chute, also registered with the Dorchester, Massachusetts Draft Board 21 on 5 JUN 1917. He later registered for the draft for World War II, in Arlington, VA at the age of 51.

It is unlikely that he was selected to serve in the military as the registrar noted that he was missing two toes, one on each foot, at the time of his registration.     Soldiers From Canada

    Pvt. Lawrence George Watt, husband of Annie Mabelle Chute: Enlisted with the 82nd Battn. (Replacment) but served with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (2nd CMR) C.E.F. During the First World War of 1914-18. He enlisted at Calgary Alberta on Nov. 30th 1915 at age 25. He listed his occupation as "Rancher" He served as the Company Signal man. Some time after his war service he moved out west to British Columbia where on Sept. 9th 1964 he died at age 74 and was buried in the Old Murrayville Cemetery.

    Arthur Hunt Chute enlisted in August, 1914, in the First Canadian Contingent, and served later as a captain in the 17th Nova Scotia Highlanders, in the Canadian field artillery. He later wrote a book about his experiences. See Notes.

    Colin Douglas Chute, son of Colin C. Chute and Christy Chute, of Middle Stewiacke, enlisted in the West Nova Scotia Regiment, R.C.I.C., Service Number F/57998. He died October 14, 1945, and is buried in the Middle Stewiacke General Cemetery.

    Elmus Arthur Chute, son of James Albert and Rachel McConnell Chute of Ontario, enlisted in the 181st Batallion on the 7th Day of December 1916 at the age of 18. For further information, see his Extended Service Record.

    Herbert Chipman Cornwell, son of James W. Cornwell and Jessie Elizabeth Chute Cornwell, of Digby, Nova Scotia, enlisted in the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was killed in France and is buried there. See his Extended Service Record).

Attestation form Number 171727.     Sergeant Herbert Alvin Murray Chute, son of Henry Chute and Martha Hagan Chute, and husband of Althea S. Bethel Chute of Lockeport, Nova Scotia, Canada, Service Number: 282507, died on September 27, 1918 at the age of 38. He is buried in the Quarry Wood Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Grave Reference: III. B. 36. He was a Sergeant in the Canadian Infantry (Nova Scotia Regiment), in the 85th Bn. Division.     Russel Dewey Chute, son of Emery Chute and Lydia Berdan Chute, enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), for World War I on 8 JAN 1916 in Elgin County, Ontario Province, Canada, at the age of sixteen. He apparently lied about his age, pretending to be eighteen, in order to enlist, and nothing further is known about his service record.

    William Albert Chute II, son of Frank Augustus Chute and Agnes Cameron Chute, enlisted in Company A, 28th Battalion, for World War I in 1914 in Canada.     Harold Raymond Chute, Service #1081146, who we believe to be the son of Edward Raymond Chute and Annie Frazer Chute, served as a sapper in the Canadian Railway Troops during World War I. A "sapper" performs a variety of military engineering duties such as breaching, demolitions, bridge-building, laying or clearing minefields, field defenses as well as building, road and airfield construction and repair. They are also trained to serve as infantry personnel in defensive and offensive operations. He was killed in Surrey, Great Britain on 6 DEC 1918, at the age of 24, and is buried in Plot # III. I. 12, Brookwood Military Cemetery, in Surrey.

    Dr. Frank Foster Chute, M.D., Regt No. 522077, son of James Perry Chute and Fidelia Foster, enlisted in the Canadian military for World War I on 9 NOV 1919.
