John Ellis left Nova Scotia in 1829 and took William with him.

In about 1832, aged 52, he left Nova Scotia and lived near Portland, Maine.

Couple moved to Elgin County, Ontario in 1850.

"Born in Hampstead, N. H., Sep. 27, 1754; taken to Granville, N. S., with his parents in 1759; married Martha, daughter of Ezekiel and Mary (Roberts) Foster, 1777, and died Oct. 27, 1831; she died Feb. 11, 1816, aged sixty."

Moved from Massachusetts to Nova Scotia about 1760.

Had 5 children.

"Born in New Hampshire, Mar. 13, 1757; taken to Nova Scotia with his parents 1759; married Sibyll, daughter of William and Lydia (Willett) Marshall, by Rev. Arsarelah Morse, 1778; lived in Granville till 1801, when he moved to Bear River, in Clements, and lived there thirty-seven years, a good, honest farmer, and a pious exemplary deacon in the Baptist church. His wife died Apr. 12, 1829, in her sixty-eighth year and as two of his family married that year, he sought and married Sarah, daughter of Alex. McKenzie, and widow of Joseph Thomas, of Granville, Nov. 29, 1829. He died June 13, 1838; she died Mar. 7, 1846, aged eighty. His funeral was attended by the Rev. Ezekiel Masters, the sermon from Psalms 127:3, 4 and 5."

"Cousin Pearl Campbell put my name in the Annapolis Royal "Spectator" - 3 issues. The issue of 15 July advertizing the Bear River Cherry Carnival of 19 July (cherries about died out in the area so they imported them!) said that our great great grandfather Thomas built the first frame house on the Annapolis side of the river; and my grand uncle Harris Harding established the first store in Bridgeport on the Annapolis side of the river (Hillsburg=Digby side)."

WEC: "Moved to Wakefield, Carleton County, New Brunswick, where their family was raised. In 1853, they had a splendid visit among kindred and friends in Ontario."

This may be a geographical error - they also may have moved to Wakefield in Quebec Province.

"Michael Spurr [grandfather father of Samuel Gilbert Spurr] came to Annapolis, Nova Scotia, in the ship "Charming Molly" with his wife Ann Bird and family. This immigrant was probably a "Royalist" or "Tory". He purchased a tract of land and settled at "Round Hill". He was descended from ancestors resident in Dorchester, Mass., and one of them was captain in command of a Colonial Regiment that fought at Port Royal in 1707, his company being the first to land on the Granville shore at a locality known as "Weatherspoon Point", but known as "Spurrs Point" from the circumstances of this landing to 1770, hence the local name has been known for 50 years before the arrival of the pioneers."

Dorchester, now in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, was Suffolk County at the time of his birth.

Prior to his marriage to Syretha Burpee, Jonathan Estey married Sarah Mills on 09 FEB 1842 and had eight children: Mary Jane, Frederick, Albina, Edwin, Wilmot, Wellington, Serena and John F. Estey. William Edward Chute recorded that he and Syretha (his second wife) had 1 son, but they also had a daughter, Sarah. No children are recorded in his third marriage, to Mary Jane Corliss.

For those interested in scandalous affairs, one of his sons by Sarah Mills, John F. Estey, made front page news when he was discovered (by his wife) with another woman. His wife shot him three times and then beat her rival over the head with the pistol ... the story made front page news in the Anaconda, Montana "Standard", on Wednesday, June 14, 1911. Note: that particular website suggests that he was the son of Jonathan and Syretha Estey, but based upon their marriage date, that is probably incorrect.
