We are looking for information on George William Tucker, born in Kentucky, February 10, 1837.  He moved to Benton County Missouri with his parents, Greenup and Elizabeth (Woodson) Tucker.  They later moved to Vernon County Missouri but George returned to Benton County where he married Sarah Nichols.  She died in 1861 after the birth of their son, William Clarence Tucker.  George joined the fighting during the Civil War, but it is unknown if he was Union or Confederate.  He died during the Civil War according to family tradition.  We would like to learn more about his military service and where he died.

UPDATE:  On a recent trip to the National Archives in Washington, D. C. I was able to locate records pertaining to the Civil War service of George W., William B., and Greenup M. Tucker.  They all enlisted in the Confederate Army at Pleasant Gap, Bates County, Missouri, which is north of where they lived near the Horton/Balltown area, Vernon County, Missouri.  They all served in the same company, under the same commander.  Greenup M. and William B. survived the war.  William is last seen in Confederate records February of 1864.  Greenup died in Vernon County April 21, 1892.  George died in Little Rock Arkansas, January 22, 1863 according to Confederate records.  View his service record HERE.
