We are looking for the burial site of John W. Steele.  In his son's obituary in an Iola, KS. newspaper it was noted that John and another son of his were both buried in Moultrie County Illinois.  We have searched both Coles County and Moultrie County Illinois records but have found no such deaths.  The family moved from Illinois to Nevada, Missouri then on to Iola, Kansas and lived out their  lives in that town.

UPDATE 12/4/2004:  While searching online I ran across three other people who were researching the Steele line.  One of them had written in his family information that John Washing Steele was buried in Mount Zion Church burial ground near Sullivan and Nelson, Coles County, Illinois.  A call to the History Center where I visited several years ago netted nothing.  The lady there told me John W. Steele was not listed in the cemetery index for either Mt. Zion church (there are two).  I think a road trip again to visually inspect the cemetery will be in order.  I am also writing a letter to IRAD for a record search for his will and any other information that may be available.  So far the emails to the other folks researching this line remain unanswered.
