Grandma's Biscuits

Real Biscuits

2 c. flour

1/2 t. salt

3 t. baking powder

3 T shortening

3/4 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients.  Cut in shortening, making it a little lumpy.  Add milk all at once and mix just until dough follows fork around bowl.  Turn out on  floured surface and pat to 3/4" thick and cut biscuits.  Bake on ungreased baking sheet 12-15 minutes @ 450 degrees or until light golden brown.  Makes 10 nice fat lumpy biscuits that are the real thing!  For drop biscuits, increase milk to one cup and drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheet.  This makes very crusty biscuits since the dough is much softer.  For sour milk or buttermilk biscuits, substitute for sweet milk, add 1/2 tsp. soda and reduce baking power to 2 tsp.--Shirley Henton
