View the Descendants of Henry Fleming
Henry Fleming was born on the 7th April 1799 in Coneyside House, Upper Coulderton, St.Bees, Cumberland. He was the son of Nicholas and Betty (Elizabeth) Fleming. A plaque over the doorway of 16 Finkle Street at St.Bees is a reminder of times gone by when Nicholas and Betty had the house built in 1818 , then being surrounded by farmland.
Henry died on the 5th January 1859 and was buried at St.Bees aged 59. He was the son of Nicholas Fleming and Elizabeth. Henry married Mary Walker on the 19th September 1835 at St.Bees daughter of Henry Walker and Ruth Barwise. Mary was the sister of Ezekial Walker from whom the author is descended. Mary was born on the 3rd of November, 1796 at Orchard House in Rottington and died on the 2nd of November 1881 at St.Bees.

The couple had two children, Elizabeth Walker (Fleming) born 1820 at Orchard House, Rottington and Henry born 1835, St.Bees. In 1820 Elizabeth Walker was noted in the St.Bees registers as illegitimate but Henry Fleming’s child.
Elizabeth Walker never married but had a daughter Eleanor Walker (Fleming) born in 1843, christened as a Walker and died in 1902 aged 59, at St.Bees and is noted in the St.Bees memorial insciptions with her mother and grandparents. Elizabeth died and was buried in 1903 at St.Bees. According to census records they resided at Finkle Street, St.Bees.
Henry Fleming married Sarah Fearon in 1859. Sarah was born 2 July 1827 in Moresby, Cumberland and died, 27th of November 1866 in Workington. Sarah was 8 years older than Henry and could have possibly been a marriage of convenience as we think Sarah's father, John Fearon was Henry Walker's accountant on the other hand it could have just been a social connection.
Henry and Sarah are on the 1861 census for Whitehaven and at that time Henry was the Innkeeper at the Lamb Inn in Whitehaven and with his wife Sarah an Innkeeper's wife and mother Mary Anne Walker, their son Hugh was not born yet. We think Henry and Sarah may have had one child Hugh Fleming born about October 1865 in Workington and died at the age of 4 months.
Henry then remarried to Elizabeth Peel on the 7th of November 1869 in the Parish Church, Hatton on the Hill, Liverpool and where noted at the time as ‘Henry of St.Bees, farmer, widower and Elizabeth of Kirkdale, spinster’. Elizabeth was born 29th of January 1840 in Workington, Cumberland and died 27th of April 1879 in High Corney, Corney, Cumberland.

(6). Harold R. W. Fleming born about 1878 at High Corney.
(7). Margaret Mary Fleming born 18th March 1879 High Corney and died 19th April 1879 High Corney.
There is one final twist to this story.
We found Henry Fleming on the 1901 Census with a new wife Ann, living at 7 Brook Street in Workington. They had two children VENE ADELAIDE FLEMING Dau, aged 7, born Workington and STANLEY FLEMING, son, aged 6. Born Workington.
Elizabeth died in 1879 and we think Henry remarried to Ann Macdonald in 1891. Ann was born in Ennerdale about 1853, 16 years Henry's junior, Henry is now a signalman.
