SERVICES FOR SAM REED, 80 Rev. Elvin E. Gray, Pastor of the Church of Christ had services Monday at 2 p.m. at Firch Bros for Sam Reed, 80, a native of Kentucky but a resident of Lawrenceburg most of his life. Burial was in Greendale cemetery. He was stricken with a heart attak at the corner of Arch and Euphemia Sts. Friday night. The Life Squad was called and he passed away before he reached Dearborn County Hospital.
A retired Schenley employee, he also worked at the Old Rossville Company. He had been in declining health for several years. His residence was at 535 Arch St., where he made his home with his daughter since the death of his wife, Emma Courts Reed, about 14 months ago.
Survivors are two sons, Carl and Earl Reed, both of Lawrenceburg, five daughters, Mrs. Mildred Caldwell, Hamilton, O.; Mrs. Gertrude Walton, Reading, O.; Mrs. Leona Stevens, Mrs. Lucille Farmer and Mrs. Mary Schaefer, all of Lawrenceburg; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One son, Chester Reed, preceeded his father in death.

Family legend has it that when Sam was a young boy, his mother, Roda, passed away. David remarried shortly after. Sam's stepmother was not kind to Sam, so he moved to Lawrenceburg, Indiana to live with his sister, Sarah Josephine (Jo) Reed Kennedy. That is how he came to be in Lawrenceburg most of his life.

God's words, "Suffer the little ones to come unto me for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" is our consolation, for we know God has just called him home to a place of peace and rest where he will wait with outstretched arms the coming of all his loved ones; where there is no sickness or death, no parting or tears for no goodbyes are ever spoken in Heaven.
We saw him suffer, heard him sigh With aching hearts and weeping eyes. We saw him sinking hour by hour Yet could not stay Death's awful power. But now he calmly sleeps at last All pain, all aching, all suffering past.
God wanted one more angel among his shining band So he chose our little Chetty and clasped him by the hand. For one by one the flowers are taken One by one the roses fall And we tearfully remember pain and sorrow comes to all.
