Troen Jonsdatter was born
March 26, 1833 in Sweden, and according to her death
certificate in Redwood County MN, her parents names were
John and Betsey Peterson. When she arrived in the US and
if she came with her parents and had any siblings is
unknown. On the records of the East Union Lutheran Church
in Carver County, MN it states she was born in Ek, Skane,
Sweden. However, after many letters to Sweden and to
individuals familiar with the Swedish records and
geography, this parish or town has not been located. She was married to Lars Erickson on January 4, 1855 in St. Paul, MN. Official records of the marriage have not been found, but only documented from other researchers records. After their marriage Lars and Troen moved to Minneapolis, then in 1858 to Carver County. In the 1860's they moved back to Minneapolis where Lars opened a boarding house called the Scandia House on 3rd Ave. South. They remained here until 1878 then moved again, this time to Redwood County MN. where Lars took a homestead in Gales twp. near the town of Walnut Grove. On December 3, 1882 Troen died of Consumption (Tuberculosis) and was buried on the farm of a neighbor, Lars Pederson. Two children from the Pederson family were also buried nearby. Lars remained on the farm in Gales and later re-married to a widow, Mrs. Hannah Lindstrom of Springdale twp. |
