The Doty Family
The first 6 generations
This information is taken directly from the E. A. Doty book "The Doty -Doten family in America" .  I do not claim it to be accurate or complete, but it is the best information I have at the moment.  I do believe it to be accurate in representing my ancestral line.  The General Society of Mayflower Descendants granted me membership based on this work.
If you have information sources which contradict any of my claims, please contact me so I can make corrections.
The book, and a 1984 reprint, are out of print.  I have a copy of the reprint.  Copies for sale on Amazon.com and Ebay range in price from $150.00 to $350.00
A Long Island company, GenealogyCDs, has made a complete version of the book available on CD, and has granted permission to place a copy on the Edward Doty website at "http://www.edward-doty.org/"  Click on the link in the opening paragraph of that site to view the book.  It is a large file (57 megabytes), so it is best to have a high-speed Internet connection -- cable or DSL.
If you do not have a high-speed connection to the Internet, you may buy a copy of the CD, either through their website, or  by mail at:

THE FAMILY OF EDWARD DOTY
Edward Doty was married twice.  We do not know who his first wife was, but there were no children by that marriage.  His second wife, Fayth Clarke, who came to Plymouth in 1634 aboard the Francis, bore him nine children and outlived him.  He died in 1655 and his widow remarried to Mr. John Phillips in March 1667.  The children born to Edward and Fayth were:

Isaac Doty, the fifth son and seventh child of Edward Doty and Fayth Clarke was born at Plymouth on February 8, 1649, the date having been recorded in the Colony records.  Isaac was only 6 years old when his father died.  He probably lived with his mother until the time of her marriage to John Phillips in 1667.
Isaac Doty was married to Elizabeth England at Oyster Bay probably about 1673.  They had a family of six sons.

Samuel Doty and his wife were members of the Friend's Meeting.  He, like his father, was a landowner.  In addition to the land given him by his father, records show that he purchased land as early as 1716 and again in 1722.  Samuel and Charity lived on the land in Oyster Bay and raised a family of 8 children, all born at Oyster Bay.

It is at this point in the history of the Doty family that we read the first recorded accounts of living memories.  Ethan Allan Doty in his book makes reference to statements by persons alive at the time of his research.  Mrs. Phebe Mosher, daughter of Steven Doty reported that Charles Doty was not a member of the Quaker Meeting, although he attended when he attended anywhere.  She remembered him and said he was quite aged when he died, probably 70 or 80.  She recalls she was about 5 years old at the time.  Charles Doty and Sarah Baker had 9 children.
