Edmond Durham
April 25, 1936 Edmond M. Durham, son of J. B. and Mary Jane
Durham was born in this county in 1891. In 1914 he married Miss Jessie Baker.
The past ten years they have been living at Rotan, where they have endeared
themselves to the people of that section. One of the remarks heard, and said by
a non-Church member, was "if ever there was a Christian, if there is such a
thing, Ed Durham is one." Mr. Durham passed away Saturday and his wife is also
very ill, so seriously that the relatives were not allowed to see her.
Five children are bereaved by his death, Earl, Violet, Paul,
Kenneth and Victor. Earl, the oldest at 21 years of age. The three brothers,
Levi and Hill, of Woodville and Barton of Warren with Arthur Best a nephew, and
Miss Rosalie, drove to Rotan Saturday and returned Monday.
There are also four sisters left out of this family of 12 children,
Miss Vinie Sims or Woodville, Mrs. Rosa Foxworth of Doucette and Mesdames Carie
Belt and W. A Goode of Cherokee-Dies, the aged father lives with the later.
Mr. Durham was a consecrated Christian member of the Christian
church, and the building would not hold the friends and neighbors who gathered
to pay him love and respect. |
