This picture of William Early Alberson is actually a photograph of a photograph
hanging in the Harney County Courthouse in Burns, Oregon. There is also a copy
of the photograph in the Harney County museum in Burns. William Alberson, one of
the founders of the town of Alberson was a saloon keeper and the first County
Assessor of Harney Co.
In it's heyday, the town of Alberson consisted of a general store, three saloons and two brothels. It was supported by the miners who came down from the hills for supplies and entertainment. The town became a ghost town after the railroad chose to bypass this important metropolis. The only thing still standing is a barn. William Early Alberson was the son of Solomon Alberson and Sarah (Sally) Ann Coy-Alberson. He was also the brother of Martha Alberson, who married Samuel A. Mahaffey. |
