Sir Gilbert the 1st earned an infamous reputaton by roasting Allan Stewart, Commentator of Crossraguel, in the black vault of Dunmore in order to obtain tracts of abbey land. This took place in 1570. Gilbert kidnapped Stewart and carried him off to Dunure Castle where it is stated that he roasted him on a spit for several days trying to force him to sign over the lands of the abbey.

William Kennedy, born 1695, died 1753, born in Ireland; married Mary Henderson, also born in Ireland. This young couple came from Ireland to Bucks County, Pennsylvania early in the 17th century. Their five children were born in Pennsylvania. A book on this family is said to be documented in the State Genealogy Library in Raleigh, North Carolina, showing that they came from Ireland to Pennsylvania. It appears the William Kennedy and Mary Henderson had five sons, namely: James Kennedy, John Kennedy, Hugh Kennedy, Thomas Kennedy and William Kennedy Jr., perhaps all born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It is not clear wheather William and wife, Mary Henderson came to Camden District, South Carolina or not.

Donald's mother died in 1924 when he was nine years old. He lived with his father and brother Robert until the death of his father in 1929. Then he and Robert lived with one of his mother's sisters'. She was Blanche Kenney. At least that is assumed, because on his military induction papers he has listed Dorothea as first beneificary, then Robert and then Blanche Kenney.

On Leila Kennedy's birth certificate Donald was listed as self-employed and owned a Retail Gas Station.

Donald, age 23, resident of Oakland, California, born in Oakland, CA., married Dorothea Maxine Mahaffey, age 21, resident of Oakland, CA., Born in Centralia, Washington, August 10, 1940 in Reno, Nevada. Divorce proceedings started on June 25, 1959. Dovorce proceedings were finalized June 24, 1959.
