ANSON E. CLINTON & NANCY M. CARPENTER
Anson Ebenezer Clinton was born in Seymour, CT in 1814. About 1839 he married Nancy M. Carpenter. The
ancestors of Nancy M. Carpenter are unknown at this time. She is supposed to have been born in Monroe,CT
about 1813. There is no record of her birth or any information about her family found at this time.
We refer to Anson as Anson E. to distinquish him from the Anson Clintons that lived in North Haven
area. They are distant cousins.
The children of Anson E. Clinton and Nancy M. Carpenter were:
- Frances A. born circa 1840 in West Haven. She married John Wallace on
Jan 16, 1861 in New Haven and died in West Haven on Jan 8, 1899.
- Nancy M. was born circa 1842 in West Haven, and died there at age 5 on May 3, 1847.
- Charles Henry was born circa 1843 in West Haven.
- Mary E (1st) was born circa 1845 in West Haven and died May 8, 1847.
- John A was born circa 1848 in West Haven and died there on Sep 10, 1912. He married Hattie Amelia
Rice, who was born about 1854 in Cheshire, CT.
- Benjamin Edward was born Apr 1850 in either West Haven or New Haven.
- William Walter was born Oct 1851 in West Haven.
- Frank A was born May 30, 1853 in West Haven. He married 1)Oliettal Shattuck, born circa 1853 in
Springfield, MA 2)Mrs. Fannie M. Peck
- Mary Elizabeth, born in West Haven on Mar 14, 1855. She married Truman Wallace, born June 1855 in CT.
- Freddie was born Oct 27 1857 in West Haven. He died shortly thereafter on Jan 28, 1868.
Note that Nancy M. and Mary E. (1st) died within 5 days of each other. Cause not known at this time.
1850 census for town of Orange (West Haven), New Haven County, Connecticut shows:
Anson E. Clinton, age 35, male, occupation Carpenter, Value of real estate owned $500., born in CT.
Nancy, age 35, female, born in CT
Frances, age 9, female, born in CT
Charles, age 7, male, born in CT
John, age 2, male, born in CT
Edwin, age 2/12, born in CT (the 2/12 could be 4/12)
This "Edwin" must be Benjamin Edward Clinton, who was born April 1850.
Anson E. died in West Haven, CT of a heart attack on Aug 9, 1878, age about 64 years 10 months,
as per the death certificate. He died suddenly in the street. Nancy M. Carpenter died Oct 30, 1881 in
West Haven. She died of "Paralysis" of 3 days duration. She was 67 years old at time of death, as per
her death certificate.
