Ebenezer Clinton (1st) was born February 20, 1755 at New Haven. He married Lois Smith, daughter of Asa and Sarah (Thompson) Smith. Lois Smith was third cousin to Ebenezer. Lois Smith's grandmother, Rebecca (Painter) Smith, was the niece of Margaret (Painter), the great-grandmother of Ebenezer. The couple resided in Derby, CT.

About 1800 Lois bought "a considerable portion" of the real estate of one Ephraim Harger from his heirs.

    She died Dec 22, 1816 in Derby, CT
  • Unnamed Child, died Jan 25, 1782, (This was probably shortly after birth) in West Haven, CT
  • Mamre, born circa 1781, Derby, CT. She married 1) David Clark 2)Isaac Blake
  • Ebenezer Jr, was born circa 1789 in Derby, CT and died Apr 9, 1834 in Derby, CT.
    He married Abigail Wooster, born Jun 28, 1789 in Derby, CT, died Aug 6, 1837 in Derby, CT
  • Sarah, born circa 1795 died Sept 11, 1839 in Derby, CT. She married William Wooster.
    He was born Apr 26, 1791, Derby, CT. and died Nov 2, 1870 in West Haven, CT.
  • Asa Smith, baptized Sept 2, 1798 in Derby, CT

    The first US census was the 1790 FEDERAL CENSUS. Official census day was the first Monday in August, (August 2, 1790). The Derby, CT census shows Ebenezer Clinton: p>The Ebenezer Clinton (Sr) family appears in the First U.S. Census of 1790:

    Jan 24, 1792 Ebenezer Clinton, Mary Clinton Harger, Anna Betsey Clinton Beers and Joseph Beers, all of Derby, conveyed disposed of land in West Haven (New Haven Deeds, vol 46, p 405). Anna Beers was the daughter of Thomas Clinton (The brother of Ebenezer,Sr. & son of Thomas 2nd).

    About 1800, Lois Smith Clinton bought a considerable portion of the real estate of Ephraim Harger from his heirs.

    Jan 20, 1801, Ebenezer and his wife, Lois, conveyed to sons Thomas and Ebenezer, Jr., land to be used by Thomas until Ebenezer Jr. should attain the age of 21 years. (Derby Deeds, vol 16 p 269)

    July 25, 1810, Ebenezer Clinton purchased for $12.00 the right of William Wheeler to land (known as Pennyroyal Hall, including the dwelling thereon which had been occupied by John Bartis? , late of Derby, County of New Haven, being a two-thirds interest. Derby Deeds vol ?, page 421.
    (Note: This could be Ebenezer Jr. but he would probably have identified himself as Jr. since the Sr was still alive.)

    Nov 29, 1811, In consideration of Love and Good Will, Ebenezer Sr conveyed to "my beloved children Ebenezer Clinton, Jr, Mamery Clinton, Sarah Clinton and also the heirs of son Thomas Clinton, deceased", the use of all land "that was and did belong to my former wife Lois Clinton deceased".

    May 7, 1835, He conveyed to his daughter, "Mamory" Clark (#322) land, buildings, furniture and clothing. (Derby Deeds vol 27, p 316)
