Johannes Daellenbach
     Johannes Dällenbach was born on 16 June 1839 in Otterbach, Canton Bern, Switzerland.2,3 He was the son of Christian Dällenbach and Anna Barbara Ganomater.1 He was christened on 23 June 1839 in Kirchberg, Switzerland. Kirchberg is 10 miles north of Bern between Jegenstorf and Burgdorf.4
          Johannes married Anna Steger on 21 November 1862.5 He was 23 years old; she was 25 years old. Johannes and Anna had at least three children. These children are Anna Maria, Elise and Emma.4 Anna died on 2 August 1872, leaving Johannes a widower.5
          Johannes married Elisabeth Lee Hodel, daughter of Gotlieb Hodel and Anna Rivenact, on 21 November 1874 at Heiliggeistkirche (Holy Ghost Church) in Bern, Canton Bern, Switzerland.6 Johannes and Elisabeth had 8 children. These children are Emil, Johannes, Gottfried, Paul, Bertha, Emma, Christian and Gottfried.7,8 Johannes worked as a master shoemaker.5
          In 1882, John and Elisabeth, with their 5 children, left Switzerland and immigrated to the United States of America. They boarded the Steamer Frangsze, port unknown. They landed in New York City in March of that same year. They probably were processed through the Castle Garden facility. Family legend states that this is when the surname, Dällenbach, became Daellenbach.9 He became a naturalized citizen in Taylor County, Wisconsin.10 See a picture of the Daellenbach family taken circa 1897. He went by the name John.
          John, age 61, and Elisabeth, age 53, were enumerated on the 1900 Federal Census in Dorchester, Clark County, Wisconsin. Also enumerated in this household were their 7 children: John (age 23), Godfrey (age 21), Christian (age 19), Emil (age 15), Bertha (age 13), Paul (age 11), and Emma (age 8). They have been married for 25 years. They own their farm with a mortgage.8 John worked as a farmer.8 Follow the link to see the census image.
          John, age 70, and Elisabeth, age 63, were enumerated on the 1910 Federal Census in Mayville, Clark County, Wisconsin. Also enumerated in this household were three of their children: Gottfried, age 31, Paul, age 21, and Emma age 18. Their other children, John (age 34), Christian (age 29), Bertha (age 25) and Emil (age 26), are living with their own families. They own their farm with a mortgage.7 Follow the link to see the census image. John, age 80, was enumerated in the household of Fred Daellenbach (his son) on the 1920 Federal Census in Dorchester. John's wife, Elisabeth, age 72, also lives with them.11 Follow the link to see the census image. Circa 1923, John and Elisabeth moved to Proctor Village, St. Louis County, Minnesota.12
          John died on 4 May 1929 at 629 West First Street in Proctor, St. Louis County, Minnesota.12 He was 89 years, 10 months, and 18 days old.12 The cause of death was from "chronic mryocardites" and senility.12 Follow the link to see the death certificate.
