Elise Dällenbach was born on 5 April 1869 in Steffisburg, Switzerland.1 She was the daughter of Johannes Dällenbach and Anna Steger.1 She immigrated with her father, step-mother, Elisabeth, and siblings in 1882 to the United States of America;
In 1882, John and Elisabeth, with their 5 children, left Switzerland and immigrated to the United States of America. They boarded the Steamer Frangsze, port unknown. They landed in New York City in March of that same year. They probably were processed through the Castle Garden facility. Family legend states that this is when the surname, Dällenbach, became Daellenbach.2 Rosa Folland wrote, "Elise married too while still in her teens and moved to Milwaukee. My pop was just 16 whe he went to Milwaukee to live with Elise and find work shoveling coal at some railroad station. . . Unfortunately, she too died young, before she was 30 leaving 4 little orphans. Her husband, Louis Hirsch, sent them home to our grandfather [Johannes and he sent them back. So the two older [grils] were farmed out and the two younger children put in an orpahnge. Katie was adoped and later put in a cloister where she remained as a nun until she died in her 60's. The youngest, Elise was just a baby when she was adopted and taken to Canada. She came back to visit in Milwaukee when she was in her 40's to look for her relatives. Anna Maria's daughter, who became Lena Bolt, alwyas tried to keep up with all the relatives there."3 Elise married Emil Hirsch in Dorchester, Clark County, Wisconsin.1 Elise and Emil had 4 children. These children are Rosie, Lena, Elsie and Katherine.1 Elise died in 1895.1 She was about 26 old.
